Every now and then a team will have a magical season. For whatever reason you get a group of people together and something just clicks.
This was that season for the Point Loma Nazarene men's basketball team.
The 6th-ranked Sea Lions not only got a chance to play for the Division II National Championship; they’re the first sports program of any kind in school history to reach a D-II national title game. Alas, they ran into arguably the best program in the nation.
Point Loma lost to top-seeded and undefeated Northwest Missouri State 64-58.
As he has been all year, Daulton Hommes was a beast for PLNU. The junior who has NBA scouts taking a very close look at him had a game-high 26 points.
But the Bearcats just had too much firepower, led by 24 points from Joey Witthus. So Point Loma's dream season comes to an end with a 31-4 record and a national runner-up finish. That’s one heck of a year and something to be extremely proud of.
