Pin-Up Show Hits Veteran Museum & Memorial Center

Vets and active duty service members can attend the show for free on April 24 and April 25 in Balboa Park

The Veteran Museum & Memorial Center in Balboa Park will step back into the 1940s this weekend as a music-filled, classic pin-up show takes the spotlight.

โ€œPin-Ups on Tourโ€ โ€“ a 21+ live show featuring dancing pin-up performers, comedy, variety acts, lounge singers and raffles โ€“ is happening Saturday and Sunday at 8:30 p.m. at the Veteran Museum.

Vets and active duty personnel can see the show for free. All others can pay $20 for general admission to the show. Twenty percent of proceeds will go toward benefiting hospitalized veterans and deployed troops.

According to โ€œPin-Ups on Tourโ€ producer Julia Reed Nichols, the show is a throwback to 1940s glamour girls and military service members.

โ€œOur goal is to recreate the magic of the Hollywood Canteen that operated during the 1940โ€™s as a club offering dancing, drinks and entertainment for servicemen, usually on their way overseas,โ€ said Nichols.

The group recently performed in Los Angeles. The โ€œPin-Ups on Tourโ€ event began in 2014 and since then, the organization has been able to donate more than 500 tickets to shows to vets and active duty service members. Funds raised through the performances have gone to veteran hospitals across the nation.

The show is part of the Pin-Ups for Vets non-profit organization and also made possible by Do Right! Industries.

The Veterans Museum & Memorial Center is located at 2115 Park Blvd. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday for this event. Tickets can be purchased here.
