1 Seriously Injured After Coaster Train Hits SUV in Del Mar

The train was traveling approximately 49 to 50 mph when it collided with the SUV, according to the Sheriff's Department.

One person was taken to Scripps La Jolla with serious injuries after their SUV was hit by a southbound Coaster Train in Del Mar Sunday afternoon.

The driver of the SUV entered the path of the train while the crossing arms were lowered and the train's horn sounded, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department (SDSO).

The crash happened at the 1600 block of Coast Boulevard north of 15th street at around 2:30 p.m. SDSO says the train was traveling approximately 49 to 50 mph when it collided with the vehicle.

The SDSO Sheriff's Transit Enforcement Unit is investigating the incident.
