Oceanside Police Investigating Suspected Random Shooting

Oceanside Police are investigating what they believe to be a random shooting, during which a 38-year-old passenger in a car was hit by a bullet.

At approximately 9 p.m. Sunday, police responded to reports of shots fired near a park at Maxon and Brooks Street in Oceanside near the Crown Heights neighborhood, Oceanside Police Department Lt. Leonard Cosby said.

Those shots hit a car with four people in it, he said.

A woman in the front passenger seat was shot in the shoulder and taken to the hospital, Cosby said. Police do not believe she was targeted, and she was taken to a nearby hospital.

The exact details of the shooting are unclear at this point. The shooting does not appear to be gang related.

At this time, police are searching for a shooter or shooters dressed in black.

No further information was immediately available.
