San Diego police detectives are searching for a gun-wielding robber accused of forcing two women into their car and making them drive him to an ATM to withdraw money from their bank accounts.
The incident – now being investigated as a kidnapping and robbery – happened around 12:40 a.m. on May 4 in the 7700 block of Draper Avenue in La Jolla.
The San Diego Police Department and Crime Stoppers released details for the first time Wednesday, as well as a sketch of the suspect.
According to investigators, the unknown man approached two women as they were getting into their car. Armed with a semi-automatic handgun, he allegedly forced both women into the car. He then got into the car, too, and sat in the back seat behind the driver.
The suspect forced the women to drive to two nearby ATMs where he ordered both of them to withdraw money from their bank accounts, investigators said. After getting some cash, the man told the driver to take him back to Draper Avenue where he got out of the car and fled on foot.
Investigators said the suspect is described as a black man between 24 and 28 years old, approximately 6-foot-1 to 6-foot-2. He had a muscular build and was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and dark, baggy-fitting jeans. He told the victims that he lived in the area.
