A sleeping North County woman's life was saved, thanks to a knock on her door.
The term "good neighbor" took on a whole new meaning in Oceanside after a fire broke out in the backyard of Christina Stroyzk's home in the 5100 block of Loma Verde while she was snoozing in a recliner in her living room. A neighbor driving by saw the flames at a little after noon and decided to make sure everyone inside the home was safe. Stroyzk said she had never met the man and that he stayed with her until firefighters arrived.
Firefighters said the flames moved quickly from the back yard to the home, damaging most of it.
"I just couldn't believe it," Stroyzk said. "I went back to take a look. The sliding glass doors were closed. I just couldn't believe the roar and the flames."
Firefighters said they are still investigating how the fire started.
