A human torso in the water near the South Mission Beach Jetty is an underwater mystery for homicide investigators.
“We received a report from fishermen divers that they had found what appeared to be a person who had drowned," police Lt. James Filley said.
Divers brought the remains to the surface and searched for clues so they could try to identify the body.
"It's a challenging environment to operate but we do treat it as it were a crime scene, document it underwater," Lt. Filley said.
Investigators say they don't know how long the man was underwater, who he is or how he died. They're hoping to get those answers from the Medical Examiner but aren't ruling out the possibility of foul play.
"At this point we don't know if we have a crime," Lt. Filley said.
