Local assemblyman Nathan Fletcher has been named chair of a new committee that will focus on creating a climate for jobs.
The Select Committee on Job Creation for the New Economy, as it’s called, was unveiled Wednesday morning at Sapphire Energy, a green technology company in Torrey Pines.
Fletcher, a mayoral candidate, announced the newly formed committee with Assembly Speaker John Perez, Assemblymen Marty Block and Brian Jones, Assemblywomen Kristin Olson and Diane Harkey, and a group of biotech and clean tech business leaders.
The committee will focus on “creating cutting edge products and jobs” and highlighting successful companies throughout California.
“There is a great need to work together to ensure our state is a more competitive place to grow innovative companies,” Fletcher said in a statement. “This committee will pinpoint what is preventing large and small businesses from investing and expanding in the state so we can empower them to create jobs.”
