Dog Shot with Arrow, Found Dead in Storm Drain

The decomposed body of a small dog shot with an arrow was found by public service employees in Coronado Wednesday

Public services crews in Coronado found a dead, decomposed dog with an arrow stuck in its body in a storm drain Wednesday afternoon, according to police.

Officials said crews discovered the dead dog just before 2 p.m. while conducting a routine cleanup of the storm drains in the 900 block of Alameda Boulevard.

Crews then called police, who are now investigating the incident as animal cruelty.

Police said the dog โ€“ described as small and โ€œTerrier-sizedโ€ โ€“ appeared to have been dead for some time. When it was removed from the storm drain, police discovered the dogโ€™s body was badly deteriorated and the arrow had gone through the middle of its body.

According to investigators, the arrow found in the dog is described as a โ€œsporting arrow.โ€

Police said the dog was scanned for an identifying chip, but none was found.

Investigators said anyone missing a small dog in recent weeks or anyone with information on this animal cruelty incident should call Police Investigator Jason Hurley at (619) 522-7350 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
