Readiness Exercise to Cause Minor Delay at Otay Mesa Port of Entry Jan. 30

Travelers can expect a short delay at the Otay Mesa Port of Entry Wednesday as crews conduct a readiness exercise.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials will take part in the large-scale operation starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The exercise will take about 15 minutes, CBP said.

During this time, the agency warned that travelers “should be aware of high visibility operations.”

“CBP is continually assessing the capabilities of our facilities and has been making — and will continue to make — necessary preparations,” it said. “Preparations include participating in operational readiness exercises and the mobilization of resources, as needed, to ensure the facilitation of lawful trade and travel.”

The Otay Mesa Port of Entry is one of the busiest commercial crossings on the U.S.-Mexico border.
