A cliff collapsed Wednesday along the beach in Del Mar and for a few moments, emergency responders thought two people were trapped in the pile of rocks and dirt.
San Diego Fire-Rescue crews were called to 10th Street, south of Powerhouse Park at 8:18 a.m. The initial report was of two people trapped in the sand following the collapse.
Lifeguards began searching for the missing individuals but soon learned two people had approached lifeguards.
Officials said they are pretty certain there is no one trapped beneath the debris but called for a search dog to canvas the area.
There are several new cracks in the bluff above the beach, officials said, so they are keeping an eye on the stability of the cliff.
A park ranger put up signs warning of cliff instability.
Caution tape will also be up for a couple days according to lifeguards.
