There will be no immediate layoffs at the Chula Vista police department, after the city council approved a deal with the police officers' association.
The city initially issued 33 layoff notices.Seven jobs were saved because of Tuesday's agreement. Another 12 jobs were spared through other resources.
Ten to 15 jobs could still be cut but not until after May 9. This gives the city of Chula Vista time to reevaluate those positions.
The deal also includes changes to the pension system for all city workers, and creates a separate benefit plan for new employees.
