Power Restored Overnight for 1,613 After Car Crashes into Power Box

A car crashed into an electrical power box on Carmel Mountain Road and Paseo Cardiel Saturday afternoon around 5:15 p.m. leaving some 1,613 people without power, San Diego police confirm.

San Diego Gas &Electric (SDG&E) had gotten power back for all but 41 customers by 10 p.m., and power was restored to the the last 41 at around 3 a.m. Sunday.

The driver was not injured, but the car dislodged the power box, exposing wires and leaving people in the Rancho Penasquitos, Rancho Bernardo and San Pasqual areas in the dark.

The driver was taken away by police for unknown reasons.
