Brush Fire Shuts Down Highway

A brush fire that burned three acres and shut down a highway in Bonsall took firefighters about an hour to put out.

Residents will probably see smoke for a couple more hours as firefighters mop up the hotspots.

β€œAirtankers have been released from the incident, however one helicopter remains on scene to assist the ground crews,” CalFire spokesperson Nick Schuler said.

A SigAlert was issued just after 2 p.m. on highway 76 from Vista Way to Camino Del Rey, according to CHP officer Rob Sanchez. Traffic was diverted to Old River Road.

β€œQuick action by the fire fighters prevented this fire from getting established in the brush and becoming a large and damaging fire,” Schuler said.

No homes were threatened. The cause is under investigation.
