Border Patrol Agents Arrest Sex Offender at Checkpoint

El Centro Border Patrol agents arrested a previously deported sex offender and seized narcotics at a checkpoint over the weekend.

The arrest and seizure occurred at the Highway 111 checkpoint, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

At approximately 11:15 p.m. Friday, agents saw a man running north from the international border fence west of Calexico and approached him.

The 36-year-old man was taken into custody after agents determined he was in the country illegally. He was convicted of contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor in 2003 and was sentenced to 15 days in prison at the time.

He was ordered to be deported to Mexico following his release.

The man was transported to the El Centro station for processing, according to CBP.

On Saturday, at approximately 1:15, agents stopped two people in a Jeep Liberty at the same checkpoint. During a secondary inspection, they discovered 20 packages of methamphetamine inside the spare tire.

The narcotics are valued at approximately $65,184.

CPB officials turned over the two people and narcotics to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
