San Diego State says center Brian Carlwell has been denied a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA.
Carlwell had applied for the sixth year based on injuries sustained in a car accident when he was a freshman at Illinois and a knee injury the following season.
After transferring to SDSU, Carlwell sat out the 2008-09 season. He helped lead the Aztecs to consecutive appearances in the NCAA tournament, including last season's run to the regionals and a 34-3 record.
Carlwell says he was disappointed when he found out he wouldn't be able to come back.
The 6-foot-11, 300-pound post presence shot 51.4 percent from the floor last year with 3.8 points, 2.7 rebounds and 0.7 blocks in 11.4 minutes per contest.
