Unsolved Slaying: $50,000 Reward Offered

A candle light vigil was scheduled Sunday in remembrance of Jose Luis Rodriguez. The San Diego City College student was gunned down while he celebrated his 18th birthday with friends in Chula Vista, police said.

Rodriguez was shot in front of a condo complex on Woodlawn Avenue in Chula Vista November 3, 2007. He was one of three people shot in a South Bay shooting spree that night. Francisco Miranda was also killed, the other victim survived.

Rodriguez, a Sweetwater High School graduate, had already made significant contributions to the community at his young age.  He worked at Lincoln Acres Library for 2 years, helping with a homework center, nutrition program, and being a mentor to other youth, police said. 

Jose's family and friends held a candlelight vigil to remember Jose on the 1 year anniversary of his murder at 424 Woodlawn Avenue in Chula Vista.

Chula Vista Police are still looking for leads in this case.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. The Governor's Office is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
