Summer Movies in the Park Series Continues Through Labor Day

The movies are free and start at dusk

Summer Movies in the Park continues this weekend by showing Minions, The Good Dinosaur and Finding Nemo at five different locations across the county.

Kicked off at the end of May, the series continues every Friday and Saturday night until Labor Day.

More than 100 movies will be shown at dozens of parks around San Diego, including the USS Midway Museum, Pine Valley County Park, Tecolote Park, Woodland Park, La Mesa Pool, Carmel Valley Recreation Center among many others.

The movies are free and start at dusk – about 15 minutes after sunset.

The Summer Movies in the Park series began in 2007 as a β€˜take back our parks’ initiative, giving local residents a reason to visit their local county and city parks and discouraging criminal activity in the park.

Some of the many movies being shown this summer include Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Mary Poppins, Kung Fu Panda 3, Hotel Transylvania 2, The Truman Show and The Peanuts Movie.

Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy games and activities before the movie starts, and to bring a chair, blankets and jackets. Food will be sold by vendors or a food truck onsite.

The series is a collaborative effort between the County of San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation, the Cities of San Diego, Chula Vista, El Cajon, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, National City, Oceanside, Poway, San Marcos, Vista, USS Midway Museum and the Port of San Diego.
