Skate Park Repairs in the Works

The Rancho Penasquitos Skatepark, closed since January, may reopen this summer after repairs are completed, according to a published report.

The city of San Diego shut down the park after the wooden surfaces started to show serious wear and tear. Even so, skateboarders were still sneaking in to the park at Carmel Mountain Road and Freeport Road. So a couple of weeks ago, the city hired a security guard to watch the site.

Now, the city wants to know why the park - which opened in 2005 - needs repairs so soon. Clay Bingham, the deputy director of San Diego Parks and Recreation, told the North County Times "We're going to have a consultant on board no later than June 5. We're giving them two weeks to do an analysis to see why it didn't last as long as we thought it would."

Once repairs are completed, the city hope to have the park open by July 4.
