Fair Could Increase Days in 2012

The San Diego County Fair may extend fair season two days next year

The San Diego County Fair may consider adding two extra days next year, running 24 days total instead of the typical 22.

β€œWe’re always looking for ways to expand the fair,” San Diego County Fair representative Linda Zweig said.

With Independence Day taking place on a Wednesday next year, the fair may be able to capitalize of two extra days of business. However, no decision will be made about extending the dates until later this year, Zweig said.

Traffic is notoriously bad along I-5 during fair dates, and an addition of two more days could mean extra congestion. Zweig said fair staff is looking into ways parking and traffic can be alleviated for next year.

β€œIf we can eradicate any traffic issues, we’re going to try,” she said.

The fair’s popularity soared this year and attendance records increased from previous years. More than 1.4 million people went to the fair during its 22-day duration, making it a record breaking season.
