Nowhere to Search

Special dogs brought in to find missing tourist

The search for a missing tourist ended early Sunday, because sheriff's deputies say they don't have anywhere to search. The plan is to resume the search Monday with special search dogs, deputies said.

Reza Lavasani-Dana, 33, was last seen at about 1:30 p.m. near Mountain Meadow Road and Meadow Glen Way north of Escondido. Investigators said Lavasani-Dana, a Swedish citizen, was jogging with his friend when the two split up around 11 a.m. and the friend returned home.

While foul play is not being ruled out, deputies think it's more likely Lavasani-Dana became disoriented and is lost. It has been extremely hot in inland North County this week. Search-and-rescue teams are looking for him in the Hidden Meadows area north of Escondido.

Lavasani-Dana is in Escondido visiting a local family, according to the sheriff's department. He is not familiar with the Escondido area and has no known family here, deputies said. Authorities said he did not have money or a phone with him when he went running.

The missing man is 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighs 165 pounds and is clean-shaven. He was wearing a red shirt and pants when he was last seen.
