Navy Jet Makes Emergency Landing

A Navy jet based out of California has been forced to make an emergency landing at the Fallon Naval Air Station.

Base spokesman Zip Upham says a "hydraulic caution warning" prompted the pilot of the FA-18E Super Hornet to shut down one engine and land as soon as possible Friday.

Upham says about 2,000 pounds of fuel were released east of Fallon during the jet's approach to the base, which is about 60 miles east of Reno.

He says the fuel release was conducted at 6,000 feet above ground in line with Navy and FAA procedures, and it allowed the aircraft to land safely.

The Hornet belongs to the Strike Fighter Squadron Fourteen out of Lemoore, Calif.

The pilot wasn't identified.
