Mom Pleads Guilty in Daughter's Death

Step-dad also admits role in girl's killing

A woman whose husband punched her 3-year-old daughter in the stomach, lacerating her liver and killing her, pleaded guilty to felony child abuse charges on Monday.

English Simmons, 24, faces up to eight years in prison when she is sentenced in January.

During a hearing before Judge David Danielsen, the Paradise Hills woman admitted that she had responsibility to take care of Armani Hansberry but allowed her husband, Christopher Lovell Simmons, a Navy chef and the child's stepfather, to discipline the girl.  Prosecutors said the child died in April as a result of blunt force trauma due to a lacerated liver and damaged pancreas.

English Simmons admitted that she didn't seek any medical help for her daughter for five hours the child was hit.  Christopher Simmons pleaded guilty last week to second-degree murder.

Christopher Simmons faces 15 years to life in prison when he is sentenced Dec. 18.
