Man Fatally Struck by Car on Hwy 125

Lanes on southbound Hwy 125 near Spring Street were closed for several hours early Friday morning after a pedestrian crossing the freeway was hit and killed by a passing motorist.

Investigators say the 70-year-old man was killed on impact around 2 a.m.

The driver of the car continued for about a mile and a half until he reached his home on North Ave. in Lemon Grove, where he stopped and called police, the highway patrol said. The man's body was lying beside him in the car, officers said.

Officers closed down three lanes of the 125 while they searched for body parts. The victim was dismembered on impact investigators said.

"The victim was partially inside of the vehicle at the time of the collision and it looks like the vehicle continued," said CHP officer Daniel Gilbert. "The driver was possibly in shock as a result of the impact."

The driver was not under the influence of drugs and alcohol, officers said.

Sheriff's deputies are also investigating the incident; apparently there may be a potential link between the victim and an earlier incident.
