A flaming Big Rig trailer prompted a Sig Alert on Interstate 8 West in Jacumba, officials said.
The crash happened at 1:08 p.m. on I-8 near Carrizo Gorge, when California Highway Patrol (CHP) officials responded to the crash, officials said.
The driver of the Big Rig trailer managed to escape before the vehicle went up in flames.
CHP officials have shut down all but one westbound lane of the I-8 as they work to clean up the wreckage. The Carrizo Gorge ramp has been closed.
Caltrans officials have been called out to assist as well.
