Crews battled a blaze near Kate Sessions Park Wednesday afternoon, putting out the flames at about 3:15 p.m.
By about 3 p.m., flames had charred about one-quarter of an acre near the intersection of Edgeworth and Crownhill roads, directly behind the park, fire officials told NBCSanDiego.
A helicopter helped to extinguish the flames and already made one water drop.
The fire was burning near homes, police said. It's not clear yet if any structures were damaged.
