Brush Fire Along SR-52 In Mission Trails Regional Park Nearly Contained

Firefighters have nearly contained a brush fire that sparked Friday off State Route 52 in Mission Trails Regional Park.

The blaze was reported just after 4:30 p.m. north of SR-52 near Mast Boulevard.

San Diego Fire-Rescue said the fire burned 21 acres before firefighters stopped its forward spread at around 6:10 p.m.

SDFD had the fire 90 percent contained by around 10:30 p.m. and said it expected to have it fully contained by noon Saturday.

The fire caused major traffic delays along the highway as CHP officers left only the left shoulder of westbound SR-52 open. Officers were able to open the two left lanes at around 9:30 p.m.

Two helicopters, one helitanker and one plane were over the fire dropping water and retardant, SDFD said. SDG&E said its Aircrane was assisting with water drops.

No structures were threatened and cause was given. SDFD's Metro Arson Strike Team (MAST) is investigating.
