2 Men in Custody After Alleged Armed Robbery of Poway Store

A Sheriff's helicopter spotted the getaway vehicle about 25 minutes after the incident.

Two men are in custody after teaming up to rob a dry-cleaning store in Poway Thursday afternoon, San Diego County Sheriff’s officials (SDSO) said.

A man wearing a ski mask walked into Twin Peaks Cleaners at 14891 Pomerado Road at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, showed the store clerk a knife and demanded an undisclosed amount of money, deputies said.

After fleeing the store with the cash, the man got into a blue Scion TC sedan with a getaway driver already in position, deputies said.

The Sheriff’s ASTREA helicopter spotted the car about 25 minutes later on Pomerado Road and Rancho Bernardo Road and followed the vehicle until Poway deputies and San Diego Police Department officers intercepted it and performed a high risk traffic stop.

The two suspects, identified as 21-year-old Taylor Knnick and 23-year-old Gregory Whittle, both of San Diego, were taken into custody, deputies said.

The store clerk was not injured in the incident.
