Walking For a Diabetes Cure

Thousands take part in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's fundraising walk at UCSD

More than 4,000 people participated in the Walk to Cure Diabetes on Sunday, October 26, 2008. The annual fundraiser, held by the San Diego chapter of Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund, started at the UCSD School of Medicine and wrapped around the campus.

"It's amazing to see how many people come out and show their support for a cure," said Danny Kaplan, a supporter who was recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.

JDRF holds walks in over 200 locations nationwide.

The event raised $900,000 for diabetes research. The foundation hopes to raise over $100-million dollars for diabetes research this year.
