The San Diego Sheriffs Department and drug treatment teams knocked on doors in Vista Monday to spread the word about meth abuse.
"No community is immune to meth," said County Board Supervisor Bill Horn. "We are getting the word out to Vista residents and asking them to help us in this fight to stop meth abuse."
Sheriff's deputies joined drug treatment and health workers to distribute magnets with a meth hotline number around a high-risk Vista neighborhood with known drug problems. The Meth Hotline, 1-877-NO2METH, is a number residents can call to make anonymous meth-related crime tips or get referrals for meth treatment.
Paul Parker from the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office said, "Deaths have occurred among those aged zero to 80 in San Diego County. While the drug promises a good time, death is more often the result."
The goal is to encourage meth users to seek treatment voluntarily before they get into trouble with the law.
