Local Bands Help Hodad's Celebrate 50 Years

The 50-year anniversary celebration takes place on Monday, Sept. 30, from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. in the Ocean Beach Pier parking lot

If you're a true San Diegan, then you've had a burger from Hodad's, but it might surprise you to know that the Ocean Beach staple really started in El Cajon in 1969.

To honor that fact, Hodad's is celebrating 50 years on Monday, Sept. 30, from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. with local bands Boostive, Nihilist, Drunkin Punkin Idiots, the Screamin YeeHaws, Se Vende, the Joe Blows, Hang Zero's and B.A.

The anniversary event will take over the Ocean Beach Pier parking lot with a skate ramp, a kid-friendly fun zone and plenty of vendor booths. Have no fear -- there will also be a 21+ zone for the beer drinkers.

If you hadn't gathered already, the music stage features quite the array of genres, as Ocean Beach-based Boostive describe themselves as dub-hop soul and Carlsbad-based Nihilist are traditional thrash metal.

Tickets for the event are $10, with proceeds going toward the Hodad's Foundation. Luckily, kids nine and under can get in free -- as long as they register to skate.

That's not a bad deal, and it's not a bad way to remember the late bossman Mike Hardin on his birthday.
