Sounds Like San Diego: July 30

The Drums headline the Observatory North Park Tuesday -- and that's just the tip of the concert iceberg

I think that the first time I saw the Drums was at the Loft at UCSD, and if you know anything about their shows, you can only imagine how big that performance felt on that little stage in that intimate room. But they never hold back, which is why tonight's show at the Observatory North Park should be extra special after at least a couple years of passing over San Diego. If you have tickets, be sure to get there early for Chai, a spunky Japanese girl group who command the stage replete with props and sing-alongs and group shouts in which you are expected to participate. Meanwhile, it's no surprise that Gipsy Kings have sold out their Humphreys show, but you still have choices with the aforementioned Observatory show, the return of DJ Artistic's Hip-Hop Battle Bot at the Casbah, or local shows with Full Blast Fun Boy at Soda Bar or Tim Pyles' local night at the Merrow. For true classic-rock aficionados, Ron Blair of the Heartbreakers makes a special appearance at Winston's.
