Things To Do In San Diego: September 16

Sometimes I like to imagine that music and sports reside in completely separate plains. However, when you couple today's Chargers home opener with the recovery of all the music aficionados after Night 2 of the San Diego Music Thing ... well, there just aren't really a lot of live-music options. This is just fine, however, because today's very obvious pick is FM 94/9's Independence Jam at the Oceanside Pier or, to be more specific, the Junior Seau Pier Amphitheatre. The show is the station's second at the venue this year and has an eclectic lineup. Fiona Apple is known for her success in the '90s but just released a new record that should please fans new and old, while Best Coast's Bethany returns with her sweet '60s-influenced girl pop. Oberhofer has been all over the media as a band to watch, and Gardens & Villa have played San Diego a handful of times, growing their audience with each play. This will be a great day along the coast to beat the heat and hear some amazing live music that make the show worth the trip up north.
