Sounds Like San Diego: Oct. 14

The last time I saw David Bazan, he was performing in the living room of a stranger's house. Everyone was crowded on the floor, and it was just a guitar, a pedal and a mic with a small speaker. In fact, most people who have seen Bazan in the past few years have seen him this way. He is part of a small cache of singer/songwriters who have all but left the bar scene for house tours -- they get volunteers to host them, artist management controls ticketing, and as an experience, the audience is quiet, attentive and gets to interact directly with the artist. He's one of the best at this new paradigm. But, lucky for us, on Tuesday he returns to San Diego with a seated show at the Irenic. It's still intimate -- it is, after all, a functioning church by day -- but it gives more fans the opportunity to experience his live show, since house shows are usually limited to about 30 or 40 people who are all on some secret magical newsletter list. This is an all-ages show with doors at 7 p.m., and tickets are still available. As a special treat, Bazan is performing with the Passenger String Quartet, which certainly can't be pulled off at a living room show. This is a perfect way to spend your Tuesday evening.
