There are so many incredible singer/songwriters out there that some can get lost in the shuffle. If you like sweet songs with an indie bent, songs that tell vivid stories and a voice that will take you away from your daily strife, Wednesday's John Vanderslice show at Soda Bar has just what the doctor ordered. Known as much for his songs as for his charming stage banter -- and for the tight hugs he gives to fans before and after every show while indulging fans in photographable moments -- his appearance will surely be intimate and thoroughly engaging Of course, with Orange County's Lowly Spects performing at the Griffin and Andrew Jackson Jihad for those seeking a more raucous show, there are certainly other options for a great hump day, but JV has my vote, and I look forward to being carried away, if only for an hour or two.
