Ain't Nothin' But a Music Thing

Another action-packed weekend in San Diego is upon us. Thursday night, Moving Units hit the Casbah and you can grab more info here. At Quality Social, Mike Delgado and Waly Mayhem will provide the music for No Request Thursday. There’s no cover and you can get details via this link. Lookout Weekend takes over El Camino with DJs Joemama and El Vee. Plus, Le Spank welcomes DJ Schugar (the Infusion Project) with resident DJs Jon Dadon and Boys Don’t Disco at the Office.

This weekend, things get kicked up a notch, as the annual two-day music conference known as the San Diego Music Thing takes place Friday and Saturday at the historic Lafayette Hotel in North Park. It’s all about improving your knowledge of the music business through interactive and roundtable sessions with nationally known panelists and featured speakers who represent the music business. Chuck D (Public Enemy), Wayne Kramer (MC5) and Martin Atkins (PIL, Killing Joke) are some of the speakers to look forward to throughout the event. Daytime activities including a trade show, happy hour parties, listening stations and pop-up live performances, as well as a chance to meet and mingle with top industry professionals and artists. Then stay and enjoy the evening Music Fest, with over 150 local, regional and national bands performing at 14 venues around San Diego. One of those showcases is at the Whistle Stop with Lion Cut, Rafter and Smile Now Cry Later. Then afterwards, dance party time with yours truly DJing. Then on Saturday night, highlights include IAmDynamite, White Arrows, Pinback, Blackout Party, the Stone Foxes and Father John Misty. Get more info here.

Also on Friday, the Walkmen plays at House of Blues. The Kava Lounge hosts a Lily & Koi Pond Music and Art Fundraiser Event. Deco, Mesck, Eric Yo and the P Man will provide the music and you can get more info here.  If you can’t make this event, you can still donate to repair the Lily Pond in Balboa Park via this link.

There are plenty of options on Saturday, including Chuckie, TJR and Brazzabelle at Wavehouse in Mission Beach. The fun goes from 3-9 p.m. and you can grab details via this link. At 4th & B, get your glitter and glam on with Adam Ant with your details here. Also, Voyeur and LED present Zen Freeman with Posso, and you can get on the no-cover-before-10:30 p.m. list here.

Sunday night, She Wants Revenge plays at the Belly Up in Solana Beach. They are only doing a handful of shows this time around and San Diego is one of them. The band will soon be going on hiatus to pursue their own solo projects, so this may be your last opportunity to check them out for a while.

Keep up to date via my blog here and I’ll see you on the dance floor this weekend!
