Leave Your Heart on the Dance Floor

Things will be heating up once again on dance floors all over San Diego this weekend. As a warmup, I always like to include Thursday nights in my posts. Between Cee-Lo Green making his way to San Diego on break from Grammy rehearsals to Skrillex taking part in the second of a two-night stand in town, you may want to think about cloning yourself for the night.

Thursday L.E.D. presents Skrillex at Voyeur downtown. Hailing from Los Angeles, this former frontman for the band From First to Last describes his current DJ style as "a mix of dubstep, electro and glitch all thrown together." The new Skrillex release, Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites, is his first on Big Beat Records, in conjunction with Deadmau5's freshly minted Mau5trap record label.  Skrillex has also made a name for himself as a highly sought-after remixer. Bruno Mars, La Roux and Black Eyed Peas are just some of the artists he has worked with. Keep in mind, Skrillex is only 23 years old. Tommy Lee & DJ Aero will also be appearing on this night, along with Mr. White.

Just down the street at Fluxx, Cee-Lo Green is scheduled to perform a 30-minute set shortly after midnight. Tim Mays of the Casbah (aka. DJ T-Mazee) will kick off the jams, along with DJ Claire and Mac Luv.  Plus, live sets by Vokab Company and the Nervous Wreckords.  Either way, you’re set for Thursday night.

Friday night, Pussy Galore’s monthly event is happening at the Whistle Stop in South Park. The spotlight is always on the female of the species, and I’ll be spinning indie, electro, ‘80s and more throughout the night, along with Terryn S.  Plus, enjoy live music from Rookie Card as the band gathers some of San Diego’s finest to perform Wilco’s debut album, A.M.  The new R.E.M. tribute act Murmur opens the free show.

Over at U-31, Feel the Noise presents DJs Headshake, Gabe Vega and Saul Q. These three are known for keeping any dance floor rockin’. Check out Gabe Vega’s latest mix here and RSVP for free entry before 11p.m.

It’s the second Saturday of the month, which means Club Sabbat at the Flame in Hillcrest. This weekend, in honor of Valentines Day, a special Vampire Naughty Nurse Bleeding Hearts-themed event awaits you. Feel free to join in! I’ll be spinning synth/future pop, industrial, EBM and more in the main room with Diskdroid; special guest DJ Synexx will play dark ‘80s, old school and a special sweetheart set in the back room. Nightmare Hides will be showcasing their wares. For more info, go here. At Queen Bee's on this night is the all-ages Steampunk extravaganza Voyages Extraordinaires featuring Abney Park, Steam Powered Giraffe, the Tragic Tantrum, Veronique Chavalier & Shovelman, along with fire and belly dancers. Plus, after the show there will be a special Steampunk performance of Repo! The Genetic Opera with the Elective Surgery shadowcast. For more info, go here.
