70 Percent of Facebook Users Worry About Their Privacy

More than two-thirds of Facebook users worry about their privacy, and about half of those using Google's search engine also fret about their personal information being made public, according to a Gallup/USA Today poll.

The article with the poll seemed pretty low in figures and information, but had this to say:

Nearly seven out of 10 Facebook members surveyed β€” and 52% of Google users β€” say they are either "somewhat" or "very concerned" about their privacy while using the world's most popular social network and dominant search engine. . . . The poll found that a similar percentage of Facebook and Google users β€” 65% and 54%, respectively β€” say they are worried about Internet viruses.

Although the numbers may seem high, many experts believe most people don't understand the risk to their privacy. "Consumers generally do not understand who's getting access to their data and for what purpose," Ryan Calo, director of the Consumer Privacy Project at the Stanford University Center for Internet and Society, told USA Today.

AllFacebook.com suggests a PSA or Facebook commercial get the word out. I don't think that's likely given that the social network has typically hid and obscured its privacy policy in the last few years to benefit third-party developers and advertisers.
