Puuuurrrfect Day in Del Mar

Thousands of cat lovers descended on the Del Mar Fairgrounds to rub noses with the finest felines in the country Saturday at the 18th annual Food and Water Bowl, the North County Times reported.

In what has been billed as the Super Bowl of cat shows, 450 cats from 41 breeds competed for ribbons in three pedigree categories, including: kitten, champion and premier (spayed or neutered) classes as well as the ever popular household pet category, according to the paper.

"This year we have 10 show rings rather than eight so there's no lull in the action," said Escondido resident Sandee Gilbert, who works as publicity chairwoman for the event. "And you'll find the owners of these prize show cats anxious to answer your questions about their breed or offer advice on problems you may be having with your kitty at home."

Gilbert said 10,000 people are expected to attend during the two-day event. The event continued from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Exhibit Hall at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.
