Girlfriend Comes Home Early, So Man Reports Craigslist Date as a Burglar

Sneaky boyfriend's story unravels quickly

A man whose girlfriend came home unexpectedly and interrupted his plans to spend the night with a Craigslist date improvised - and told police the date was a burglar.

Keith Gaylor's 3 a.m. call to 911 brought five Colorado Springs cops rushing to the aid of Gaylor and his girlfriend. He had allegedly reported the pair were inside his home as a woman with a gun waited outside for them, according to the Colorado Springs Gazette. But police quickly determined that Gaylor, 24, had concocted the story to convince his live-in girlfriend that he wasn't cheating on her.

Police said Gaylor met the Craigslist woman and arranged for her wee-hours visit, but the plans went awry when the unidentified real girlfriend, who may now be an ex-girlfriend, showed up before the scheduled tryst. When the date rapped on his door, Gaylor called police and said an armed burglar was trying to knock down the door.

Initially, police detained the Craigslist date, but Gaylor's story unraveled, police said.

โ€œWhen they started listening to the story, they said thereโ€™s more to the story than meets the eye,โ€ police spokeswoman Barbara Miller told the paper.

Gaylor was given a summons for making a false report.
