Scoreless In Seattle

It was the perfect storm for the Padres. Their starter, Clayton Richard, gave up three home runs in his first game since returning from the 15-day DL. By the end of the first inning it was 4-0 Mariners, all the runs Seattle would need.

That's because the Mariners starter, Aaron Harang pitched a four hit, complete-game shutout, the first for Seattle this season. It was the seventh of Harang's career.

Richard got into trouble early, giving up two homers in the first inning. Richard, who has pitched poorly this season, is now 0-5 with an ERA north of eight.

The teams finish their short two game series in Seattle Wednesday. They will face each other again Thursday and Friday in San Diego.
