DONALD TRUMP

β€˜Hamilton' Actor: β€˜There's Nothing to Apologize for' After Controversial Pence Visit

After Donald Trump tweeted about the "Hamilton" cast this weekend, a top aide said the president-elect will continue to use his Twitter account to "cut through the nonsense"

If Donald Trump is waiting for an apology from the cast of "Hamilton," he will have to continue to wait.

Actor Brandon Victor Dixon, who plays Aaron Burr in the celebrated musical, told "CBS This Morning" on Monday that "there's nothing to apologize for." Dixon gave Vice President-elect Mike Pence an onstage earful about equality at the end of Friday's performance.

"We, sir, we are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights," said Dixon, as his fellow actors joined hands. "We truly hope that this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and to work on behalf of all of us."

Trump took to Twitter to demand an apology, though Pence said he wasn't offended about the remarks, and told his daughter, "that's what freedom sounds like."

Dixon said Monday that "Hamilton" creator Lin-Manuel Miranda had a hand in crafting Dixon's remarks, although Dixon said he "made some adjustments."

Dixon added that both Trump and Pence are welcome to come backstage and meet with the cast at any time, adding, "Art is meant to bring people together."

Appearing on a different network Monday, Kellyanne Conway, a top aide to Trump, said the president-elect will continue to use his Twitter account to "cut through the nonsense" and draw attention to his plan for the country.

Trump's "Hamilton" tweets were among nine messages posted on his account this weekend. Two covered his transition plans, and others complained about a skit on "Saturday Night Live," Sen. Harry Reid and his fraud case with Trump University.

When CNN's Chris Cuomo noted that most of his tweets didn't draw attention to his plan for the country, Conway asked: "Why do you care?"

She said Trump isn't focused on division: "This network and other people will always be focused on divisions. How about accepting the election results, Chris, and letting him form a government?"
