Local Leaders Celebrate MLK Jr.

The celebration emphasized volunteerism, philanthropy and activism

More than 1,000 people went to a breakfast early Friday morning to celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

For the past 27 years, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Human Dignity Award Breakfast has kicked-off a weekend of events dedicated to Dr. King's memory. The celebration emphasized volunteerism, philanthropy and activism.

Rev. Dr. Art Cribbs, Executive Director of Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice spoke at the event to commemorate King.

β€œDr. King was for something … equality for all people,” said Michael Bunker, executive director of the Jackie Robinson Family YMCA.

Many community leaders and members of the San Diego YMCA were in attendance at the event that benefited the Jackie Robinson Family YMCA.
