San Diego has been ranked one of the top 10 most eco-friendly cities in America, according to Travel+Leisure magazine.

The list was compiled based on “green” guidelines such as the cleanliness of a city, pedestrian-friendliness, public transit and public parks.

San Diego ranked 8th on the list of greenest cities, following other eco-friendly standouts such as Portland, Ore., Savannah, Ga., Minneapolis, Denver and Chicago.

“San Diego claims more farms per capita than any other county in the nation, making it a locavore’s delight,” explained the magazine.

The round-up also cited San Diego’s easy access to sand and surf, as well as the electrical car service Car2Go, as reasons behind the high ranking.
