Paddleout Honors Shark Victim

Dozens of friends joined family members in a paddleout memorial Thursday to honor a college student killed by a shark in Santa Barbara.

Lucas Ransom, 19, would spend summers surfing near the Oceanside Municipal Pier.

That location is where his family gathered Thursday evening to hold a ceremony in the surf for the teenager who was attacked off Surf Beach Oct. 22.

Ransom died minutes after the attack.

Despite the way he died, Ransom's family told our media partners the North County Times that they were sure he would never want them to fear the ocean.

"You've just got to move forward with life and enjoy every moment you have," Travis Ransom said. "I know he'd want us to be like that."
