A SWAT standoff ended peacefully after a man allegedly opened fire in an El Cajon apartment complex, according to police.

Dennis Wallace Haggerty, 22, went into an apartment in the 300 block of North Mollison Avenue and fired a shot at a neighbor, according to the El Cajon Police Department.

The victim in the second apartment grabbed a gun and fired it to scare Haggerty away, according to police.

Haggerty ran away and allegedly fired more shots before running into an apartment, which had five adults and three children inside, according to police.

A portion of the building was evacuated.

Haggerty later surrendered and was taken to San Diego County Jail.
