Woman, 77, Hit by Fleeing DUI Suspect

Police said the suspected drunk driver initially pulled over, but then chose to flee the scene, leaving the injured pedestrian on the street

A 77-year-old woman walking in a La Jolla neighborhood was injured Friday night when a suspected drunk driver hit her in a crosswalk and then fled the scene, police confirmed.

The San Diego Police Department said the woman was walking in a crosswalk in the 6400 block of La Jolla Boulevard around 11:45 p.m. when a 60-year-old man in a Ford Expedition struck her.

At first, he pulled over.

However, a short time later, the man – suspected of driving under the influence – fled the scene, leaving the injured woman lying in the street.

The victim suffered a broken pelvis and other non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

The police department said officers were able to find the hit-and-run suspect after the crash and he was positively identified as the man behind the wheel.

He was arrested for felony DUI and felony hit-and-run, police said. His name was not released. No one else was harmed.
