Four people were injured in a major crash involving multiple cars near State Route 76 in Oceanside Wednesday night, officials said.

The crash happened around 7:40 p.m. at Festival and Douglas, near SR-76.

The Oceanside Police Department said several vehicles were involved in the collision, including two cars and a motorcycle.

Four people were injured and transported to local hospitals with injuries ranging from moderate to life-threatening. Several of the patients were airlifted from the scene.

Some victims became stuck in the wreckage and had to be extricated by emergency crews.

Traffic was shut down near the Oceanside Golf Course and on Douglas Drive as officials worked to rescue patients from the vehicles and collect evidence from the scene.

Oceanside Police Department initially said the crash may have been as a result of street racing but later updated that information saying that it was not clear.
