Firefighters responding to a brush fire in National City ran out of water and had to call for help.

The fire broke out along Interstate 805 near Plaza Bonita Road.

Heartland Fire along with San Diego Fire arrived at the scene shortly after 1 a.m.

Crews cut through fences and thick brush to reach the fire but quickly ran into a problem when they realized their water truck had run out of water.

Once additional units were called to the scene, crews had the fire under control in about 30 minutes.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.
