The body found inside a car at the bottom of ravine in Poway yesterday has been identified.
Aaron Kyle Mahaffey, 25, a resident of Sorrento Valley area, was reported missing since May 20.
A mountain biker discovered Mahaffey’s body Tuesday afternoon while riding along Scripps Poway Parkway, east of Danielston Street, according to theSan Diego Sheriff’s Department (SDSO).
Deputies said the vehicle appeared to have been traveling westbound on Scripps Poway Parkway when it drove off the road into the canyon.
According to SDSO, the actual crash happened sometime between Thursday and Friday night last week.
SDSO Sergeant David Cheever told NBC 7 someone did report the vehicle in the ravine on Monday but there were no reports made of a body in the car.
If there had been an initial report of a body discovered, the sergeant said that would have made the call a higher priority and deputies would have responded immediately.
